Roberts Vinovskis (b. 1975) is a Latvian producer, director, and entrepreneur whose work has significantly influenced the Baltic film industry for over three decades. His professional career began in 1991 as an assistant to the seminal documentarian Juris Podnieks. In 1995, he founded Studio Locomotive, which has since become one of the region’s most established and active independent production houses.
Vinovskis has produced a filmography of approximately 40 titles across various genres, with a strong emphasis on international co-productions. His filmography is characterized by high artistic merit, with the majority of his projects premiering at prestigious A-list international film festivals.
His producer’s portfolio is defined by collaborations with prominent Baltic directors, including Dāvis Sīmanis, Aik Karapetian, Viesturs Kairišs, Ignas Jonynas, Jaak Kilmi, and Tomas Vengris. Notably, Vinovskis has been instrumental in the production of acclaimed animated features, working alongside the New York-based Latvian filmmaker Signe Baumane and the legendary figure of Latvian animation, Roze Stiebra.
In addition to production, Vinovskis has developed key regional film infrastructure as the founder of BBrentaland BBposthouse, the leading providers of filming equipment and post-production services in the Baltics. His commitment to cinematic heritage led to the establishment of Locomotive Classics, a brand dedicated to the high-end restoration of heritage cinema. Notable achievements in this field include the restoration of the Latvian classic "Four White Shirts" and the Armenian masterpiece "Hello, It’s Me!", both of which were selected for the prestigious Cannes Classics program.
In 2025, he founded the Riga Cinematheque, an institution dedicated to fostering a permanent and sophisticated film culture in Latvia, an ambitious project set to open its doors to the public in the coming years.
