Oskars Rupenheits (b. 1982) developed a strong interest in music and the arts from an early age. He worked as an assistant director for a renowned Latvian filmmaker and received the National Film Award for his graduation film, before continuing his studies at the London Film School.

While in the UK, he worked on Life in a Day (dir. Kevin Macdonald). After returning to Riga, Rupenheits directed several highly popular short comedy and crime films.

His debut feature film, The Foundation of Criminal Excellence (2018), became Latvia’s most successful film of the year. In 2025, his second feature film, Red Code Blue, was released and became the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in Latvia.

Oskar’s sophomore feature just received nominations in 8 categories for Latvian National Film Award Lielais Kristaps, including for best director, best feature, best actor & best cinematographer.
