Five children in different parts of Latvia started school in 2015 and their first school year was captured in the documentary ‘TO BE CONTINUED’. Seven years later directors Ivars Seleckis and Armands Začs revisit the protagonists who are now 14 years old. Some have grown up during these seven years, some seem to be still lingering in childhood.

While for Zane the only duty at home is to tidy up her room, Anastasia has to take her little brother to the kindergarten and take care of the livestock. While Kārlis gives mother to check his homework every evening and Gleb’s parents plan his daily routine hour by hour, Anete is allowed to live alone in the Riga apartment for a whole week.

As the children grow up, the lives of the film’s protagonists increasingly reflect the cross-section of society, highlighting ever-greater differences between city and countryside, between the wealthy and the less fortunate, and between the confident and the insecure.

This long-term cinematic observation captures the world through the eyes of teenagers and observes how the situation in the country and the world shapes these children’s destinies.

After its world premiere at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), To Be Continued. Teenhood will be presented to Boston audiences for the first time at the Boston Baltic Film Festival.
